We are having a linux user group meet on the 7th of February. This is a sort of continuation of our previous meet held on 31st of Jan. The topics are "Vi Editor discussion" - by Bhibujit, PHP discussion by Raghav Sriram and Sudhir and Networking Concepts by Ravindra. In addition, for the benefit of newbies, we shall have a short discussion about general linux commands. The venue of the meet is again at : 9-16-38/A, V.I.P.Road, C.B.M.Compound (Above Kshetra Art gallery). The time is at 4.30 PM. |

How did it all start!!??
It was on 31st of december of 2000 and a bunch of linux lovers
have made a serious new year resolution, guess what ;-).
And they came together at the beach and discussed various
stuff on linux and free software. The vizag users group
then starts officially from 1st of january,2001. The best
way to start a new year :-),right .

Copying and Moving Text in Vi
Many of us are familiar with the Copy / Cut / Paste commands in Windows. You
can have the same convenience in Vi. The process is called Yanking.
To Yank the current line of text in Vi to a temporary buffer use:
yy
You can also yank more than one line of text by prefixing the number
of lines you want to yank like so:
10yy
Now to paste the buffer contents, go to the desired location and
press p

Linux Kernel version
To know the current linux kernel version, use the uname command like this:
uname -a
